Imperfect Verbs Concepts Basic - Advanced ;)

-The Spanish Language includes more than just regular present tense verbs and preterite verbs. They also involve verbs that are called imperfect verbs.

- Imperfect Verbs are verbs that have been conjugated so that it represents the past tense, but is used when the time is either "Not Clear" or is just their to support the sentence.

-The Imperfect Verbs usually come after words that states a certain time but is not exact.
Examples of these words are: While, Moments Agos, As a Child, or other words and phrases that does not state an exact time.
(the following words were written in English, but the point was for them to be understood and what the spanish words might represent)

The Imperfect Verbs are the same in the fact that the last two letters at the end of verb should be conjugated in a certain form.

The  -Ar, -Ir, and -Er verbs all have different ways to conjugate them , shown bellow


-Ar Verb Conjugations


Yo= -Aba 
Tu= -Abas
Ello, Ella, El, La,...etc = -Aba 

*Note: I know that the 1st and 3rd conjugations are the same, thats because in the Spanish language thats how they are suppose to be ;)
Nosotros= -ábamos
Vosotros= xxxxx you most likely won't you this word unless you're going to Spain
Ellos, Ellas, Los, Las... Etc= -Aban

Ex: Caminar
Yo= Caminaba
Tu= Caminabas
Ello, Ella, El, La, = Caminaba
Nosotros= Caminábamos
Ellos, Ellas, Los, Las, ... etc= Caminaban






-Er and -Ir Verb Conjugations


*They are the Same ;)
Yo= -ía
Tu= -ías
Ello, Ella, El, La, ... Etc= -ía
Nosotros= -íamos
Vosotros= xxxxxx MOSTLY LIKELY YOU WON'T USE UNLESS YOU GO TO SPAIN
Ellos, Ellas, Los, Las, ...Etc= -ían
Ex: Comer
Yo= Comía
Tu= Comías
Ello,Ella, El, La, ... etc= Comía
Nosotros= Comíamos
Vosotros= XXXXXX ya.. you should get the idea by now....
Ellos, Ellas, Los, Las,... ETC= Comían



Irregular Imperfect Verbs

Although many imperfect verbs follow similar guidelines (as seen in our other fabulously made blog entry), there are some that just have the craziest conjugations! Luckily enough, we can help you with them!

For example:


Ser (To be)

Yo- era
Tú- eras
Ud./él/ella- era
Nosotros- éramos
Uds./ellos/ellas- eran

Crazy enough for ya? JUST WAIT.

Ir (To go)

Yo- iba
Tú- ibas
Ud./el/ella- iba
Nosotros- íbamos
Uds./ellos/ellas- iban

AND FINALLY.... The Granddaddy of em all
